All TLC Soaps are made here in my home workshop. I make them all myself with Tender Loving Care, although very occasionally I do receive a little 'help' from the children!
Soap comes from a chemical reaction between various oils & fats and caustic soda (lye or NaOH), called saponification. During the saponification process manufacturers of commercial soaps remove the natural glycerin and either dispose of it as waste product, or separate it out for the food or cosmetics industry. Glycerin is a natural moisturizer for the skin, and the removal of it from soap is another reason why soap can often be drying to the skin.
Here at TLC Soaps, our cold process soapmaking method keeps everything simple and back to the natural way of making soap. Nothing is removed and only natural products are added.
A short note on preservatives.
Although my soap takes just three weeks to make and cure and therefore via this website you can have pure natural soap freshly made and delivered to you home within a month of ordering, I do put a natural preservative into all of my soap. Grapefruit Seed Extract is a wonderful BUT VERY EXPENSIVE natural preservative, but nonetheless I have chosen to put it into every bar of soap I make. This is all part of my ethos of Tender Loving Care. Because of my unfortunate experience with a face mask, I want to always do the best for my skin.
Grapefruit Seed Extract, a by-product of the citrus industry, is an all-vegetable antioxidant that extends the life of the super fatted bar by an additional six to twelve months. It contains vitamin C and glycerin and has proven to be antibacterial, antimicrobial, deodorizing, astringent and antiseptic.
